why a crown?

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  Images stick with us in powerful ways and remind us of something.  In this case, our logo is a crown and should remind us of the Kingdom of heaven.  The Kingdom of heaven is at hand within us because of the Holy Spirit and we have been commissioned under a glorious calling to bring that Kingdom to earth.

Jesus began His ministry by preaching these words: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”  In other words, the Kingdom of Heaven is within reach. When He came to earth, He brought His Kingdom with Him.  As He continued to teach the disciples, He told them to seek the Kingdom (Matthew 6:33), pray for the Kingdom (Matthew 6:10), preach the Kingdom (Matthew 10:7), and to realize that He will give to them the keys of the Kingdom (Matthew 16:19).  There is no doubt, the Kingdom of Heaven was central to the teaching of Jesus in every way.

In Romans 14, Paul also tells us something important about the Kingdom when he says, “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17).  So where is the Kingdom?  It is found in the Holy Spirit.  As adopted children of God, God has graciously saved us through Jesus’ finished work and the Holy Spirit has taken up residency inside of us.  We are now the temple of the living God.  He dwells in us and has promised to never leave us.  Never.  What blessed assurance God has given to undeserving people!

As followers of Jesus, we have no greater desire than to see the Kingdom of Heaven invade this earth.  We are hungry to see God mercifully pour out His presence in tangible ways that will bring salvation to the lost, healing to the broken, hope for the hopeless, and freedom to the captives.  Our assignment is to seek, pray, and preach the Kingdom with the staunch realization that God has chosen to partner with us to redeem His people and His earth.  We get to be a part of God’s redemption story!  This makes everyday an adventure as we walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called (Ephesians 4:1)!
